From My Childhood to Theirs: How Motherhood and Memories Shape My Stories
Share
When I sit down to write a story, I’m not just stringing words together — I’m reaching back to the little girl I used to be, the mom I am today, and the stories I wish someone had told me when I needed them most.
As a Christian children’s and contemporary young adult author, my goal is simple: create stories that spark something real. Something deep. Something that says “you matter,” even when the world makes you question it.
But where do these stories come from?
Let’s Start With My Childhood
Growing up, I didn’t always see kids like me in books — not with my skin tone, my struggles, my questions about God, or my loud, imaginative spirit. I was the girl who scribbled poems in the margins of my notebooks and created characters who felt everything a little too much.
Sound familiar? That little girl still lives in me. She whispers reminders of what it felt like to be misunderstood, overlooked, or searching for purpose way before anyone thought a child could feel that much. That version of me inspires the kids I now create — the brave, quirky, sometimes broken, but always beautiful characters in my stories. I’m raising three amazing humans — each wildly different, each with their own spark. And let me tell you, nothing will humble you, inspire you, and stretch your creativity like motherhood. Fr, No CAP!
Being a mom lets me see the world from fresh eyes every single day. It’s in the bedtime prayers. The random deep convos, The silent fears they carry and the funny moments when they are just being themselves. These moments don’t just shape my life — they shape my stories. This is another big reason why I am a parent - educator support guide as well.
I write faith-based stories for kids, teens and offer encouragement to families and educators, because I want them to know: you are seen, you are chosen, and you are never alone. My own children remind me how important that message is, and I tuck that truth into every story, every plot twist, every character flaw and breakthrough.
Why Faith + Fiction?!!
Because real life is messy. And faith isn’t just about perfect church dresses or memory verses — it’s about finding God in the hard parts. In the doubt. In the comeback. In the ordinary. I blend faith and fiction not to preach, but to reach — the overthinkers, the feelers, the ones who are figuring it all out. I want every child, teen, parent or educator who picks up my books to see pieces of themselves and pieces of hope.

And,
I couldn’t do it without the little girl I used to be, or the three little humans who call me “Ma.”
